FutureWorks continues its leadership in UID management and Item Identification and Tracking by providing its newest product suite; the FutureWorks Scanner Management system. Taking advantage of existing scanner technologies (specifically the Code CR3 scanner) and the ability to move data and instructions over a network (internet or intranet), FutureWorks Scanner Management system allows a user community to maximize its use of the scanners deployed by/to the program.

On-scanner Software Applications
- Image Capture – Takes a picture and stores to the handheld device for transfer to web-based application for later use or as part of a data record
- Keyboard Wedge – Allows for data capture from known syntaxes and symbologies; outputs data to an application, a form, or to a simple list. Two modes of keyboard wedge operation
- Free-form scanning – outputs whatever data is read by the scanner
- “directed scanning” – allows the scanner to be configured to look for only certain types of data (2D or 2D compliant data); output certain fields in a certain order; add tabs and carriage returns as required to complete a specific form; and to strip un-needed elements
- Configuration Manager – Allows an end item (of any type) to be defined along with its Bill of Material (BOM) for use in scanning events for configuration control and lifecycle management. Configurations are stored locally on the scanner and can be configured to direct a user through a specific scanning sequence based on use case and item location.
- Event Manager – Allows for basic events to be made into scan-able events using either a scanned 2D matrix or a keyboard entry to define the event type; and the 2D or linear barcode label to be used to capture item data. Events codes update existing item records in the Item record in the database. This can be integrated with other legacy databases for use in maintenance record management, RCM, etc using our integration tools (web-services, APIs, flat file output).
- Available event codes are:
- ATA Spec2000 Event Codes, UID Event Codes; GOLDTM Event Codes
FutureWorks SMSTM server-side system functions
- Scanner management – FutureWorks’ proprietary scan tool configuration allows a program administrator or scanner administrator (roles are defined by the program) to manage the exact configuration of each scanner deployed in the program. Configurable elements are:
- Enable updating from server
- Enable on-board radio
- Configure which applications are available on the scanner
- Configure scanner-side data management and parsing
- Push end-item and related BOM configurations to the scanner
- Data management - FutureWorks’ Scanner Management System:
- Provides server-side data manipulation to fit additional requirements not addressed by scanner-side data management
- Accommodates custom fields for the manufacturer's purposes
- Supports parent-child relationship
- Provides flexibility to extend capabilities beyond UID assignment
- Minimizes and where possible eliminates manual data entry
- Printing/reprint support – When used in collaboration with the FutureWorks’ Print Management System, allows data capture and parsing for printing and/or reprinting functions.
- Report management – FutureWorks’ Scanner Management System provides a number of useful, preconfigured reports and data reporting screens
- Find UCN or UID
- Find by Part Number and Serial Number
- FWSID verification
- Aircraft configuration reports
- Scanner history
- Event report by UCN
- Real-Time Event Log
- Event transactions
- Generate XML and Excel output for UID registry updates and/or for submission to trading partners
- User Management
- Create and manage roles based on aggregation of rights elements
- Manage user-based roles and rights (for given programs and tasks)
- Create & manage users
- Create & manage programs - Manage program elements (EID Types, part information, UID Construct Type, Label formats and substrate types, parent child relationships, etc)
Deployment
Although built to extend value of the existing FutureWorks UID management solution into the field, FutureWorks’ Scanner Management SystemTM can be deployed as a stand-alone solution to support existing UID efforts in collaboration with legacy data and UID systems. FutureWorks’ scanner tools can be deployed in a variety of ways to meet your program or business use case. It can be deployed in three basic ways:
- Internet-based deployment
- Local deployment (stand-alone PC or network-based)
- Scanner only (limited functions)
